Fairfield County Auditor to Host Second Annual Free Real Estate Summit “Serving Those Who Have Served” with 2.5 hours of Continuing Education
The Fairfield County Auditor’s Office is pleased to announce the office will be hosting its second annual Real Estate Summit titled “Serving Those Who Have Served.” This summit is focused on equipping real estate professionals and others with tools needed to serve Veterans. The Ohio Department of Commerce has approved 2.5 hours of continuing education for real estate and professional licensing. Local leaders and subject matter experts are scheduled to present.

Auditor’s Office Announces Tax Incentive Review Council Meetings Completed for 2024
As of July 25, 2024, all Tax Incentive Review Council Meetings for Fairfield County have been held. There were five meetings held this year for multiple Tax Incentive Review Councils for the following entities: Fairfield County, City of Canal Winchester, City of Lancaster, City of Pickerington, and the City of Reynoldsburg.

County Auditor Earns Auditor of Distinction Certificate from State Association
On June 7, 2023, Dr. Carri Brown, Fairfield County Auditor, was honored as an “Auditor of Distinction” by the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio. County Auditors are eligible for a certificate as an “Auditor of Distinction” for each elected term they serve once they have earned at least 100 hours of continuing professional education credit. At the Summer Conference for County Auditors, Brown was one of two County Auditors in the state to be named an “Auditor of Distinction.

Fairfield County Auditor to Host Call Center for Property Tax Questions
The Fairfield County Auditor’s Office will host an evening “call center” to answer questions property owners may have regarding their property taxes. The call center will be held on Wednesday, June 26th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This will occur after the second half tax bills are sent, but before they are due. The second half tax bills are due July 18th.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, Dr. Carri L. Brown, Fairfield County Auditor, was
awarded Recognition of Distinction from Ohio University Lancaster. Dr. Pam Kaylor and Dr. Candice Thomas-Maddox, both Communication Studies Professors at Ohio University, presented the honor in recognition of Dr. Brown’s “invaluable contribution as a Leadership Educator for the 2022-2024 Women’s Leadership Summit.” The Leadership Summit was a comprehensive training program designed for women to establish and enhance leadership skills.

Ohio Department of Taxation “The Finder” Tool Provides Various Tax Information
Did you know the State of Ohio offers a tool to help citizens seeking tax information about a property in Ohio? “The Finder,” a service of the state’s Office of Technology, which is part of the Department of Administrative Services, provided information on municipal taxes; school district income taxes; sales and use taxes; as well as tax district summaries.

All cigarette dealer licenses expire June 1st of each year. All cigarette dealer licenses must be renewed between May 1, 2024, and May 27, 2024.

Fairfield County Awarded Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Fairfield County Auditor, Dr. Carri L. Brown, learned today that the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded Fairfield County with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This award is based on the production of the annual comprehensive financial report for the year ended December 31, 2022. The report has been judged by an independent panel to meet high standards for financial reporting.

Deadline is April 1st
The final Current Agricultural Use Value (CAUV) deadline is quickly approaching. The deadline to file an initial or renewal application is Monday, April 1st. As of Wednesday, March 6, 2024, over 92% of property owners in the CAUV program have returned their applications.

Clearcreek Township is placing a 0.5 mill replacement levy on the ballot March 19, 2024. This replacement levy for road and bridge (snow) improvements is for a period of 5 years. Collections for the replacement levy, if passed, will begin in 2025. - Basil Joint Fire District Ballot Issue

County Auditors’ Association of Ohio Holds Leadership Summit in Pickerington
A statewide leadership conference for the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio was held in Pickerington on February 7. County Auditors and their deputies participated in seminars about positive communication, leadership principles, advocacy, and strategic planning. There are follow-up activities planned to continue the leadership discussions and to develop networks of support. Included with this release is a photo of some of the attendees of the conference.

Fairfield County Auditor Participates in Project to Support Statewide Parcel Data Management
The Auditor’s Office is pleased to announce its participation and support in a statewide parcel data management project. The Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP) is a statewide parcel project that is a comprehensive effort to collect, standardize, and make accessible geospatial parcel and basic assessment data from all 88 counties in Ohio for all levels of government. The objective of this data collection is to create a single, standardized statewide dataset using authoritative data maintained by each county. The resulting dataset is now available to county and state stakeholders, and the data is of particular interest to realtors, surveyors, and GIS professionals.

Fairfield County Auditor Highlights the 1801 Map of Refugee Lands
The Fairfield County Auditor’s Office is highlighting the 1801 Map of Refugee Lands in its map room. The 1801 map is a copy of an original map crated by Elnathan Scofield. It includes the names of refugees from the Revolutionary War.

Fairfield County Auditor Appointed to Serve on Ohio’s Commission on Continuing Legal Education
Fairfield County Auditor, Dr. Carri L. Brown, has been appointed by the Supreme Court of Ohio to serve on the Commission on Continuing Legal Education. She will be serving a three-year team beginning in January of 2024 and concluding in December of 2026.

Fairfield County Auditor Draws Awareness to On-line Property Tax Estimator
Auditor Brown stated, “If a citizen would like to estimate the amount of tax associated with a home in a specific taxing district, this tool can be helpful. The tool uses 2023 tax information for payments in 2024, and the citizen can select a specific market value. We are getting good feedback about the tool from people who are considering buying a home or making significant improvements to their home.”

Local Food Pantries Benefit from Dollar General Settlement
Two local food pantries will share $9,587, a portion of Ohio’s settlement with Dollar General. Dollar General agreed to pay Ohio $1 million because the retailer was not charging the correct or displayed price when customers paid at the register. Attorney General David Yost dedicated $750,000 of the settlement to support food banks throughout the state.

January Map of the Month Features Blessing Box and Little Library Locations
The January 2024 Map of the Month has been released and features the locations of “blessing boxes” and “little libraries” throughout the Lancaster area. Blessing boxes serve as a resource for those needing a food item while little libraries have books for all ages. The idea behind these boxes is to “take what you need and leave what you can.”
